Forget the World Cup: Manta Rays Beat Dragons in Komodo

Since the World Cup is on in the middle of the night here I haven’t been able to catch any games yet. But I did catch 6 huge Manta Rays while diving in Komodo National Park. What a treat to see these huge animals, one was about 17 feet long. AMANTA

Nothing can compare to doing a 3 minute safety stop while looking down at a Manta Ray as it swims underneath you, close enough to continue shooting pictures.

I am just in awe here. So much so that we were willing to buy new plane tickets in order to extend our stay. Just when I thought my trips under the sea had reached their peak I spend about 10 minutes watching an octopus come out of it’s hole and travel down a Octopusmovesspectacular reef. I think my brother summed up my time in Komodo nicely when he wrote, “Kim based on your pics there is not much left. You need to track down a Whale Shark and a Great White then you can pretty much hang up your reg (regulator).” If you are interested in seeing my pictures please go to the site’s Facebook page. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed shooting them.

I have two more days to enjoy the park and I can’t wait to get back inIMG_2764 the water. Two dives and a snorkel each day is not enough so tomorrow I will add a night dive to the mix. Hopefully I will have some more interesting critters to add to the collection.
